Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

  • What forms of payment will A Place of Peace Residential, LLC accept?

    •  We are licensed through DBHDS but awaiting Medicaid approval. We will not provide supports until we are fully licensed through Medicaid. Once we are fully licensed, our services will be paid for via Developmental Disability (DD) Waivers through Medicaid. Each individual in our care must have a DD waiver to receive services. Room and board are paid for separately.

  • What types of services and supports will you provide?

    • We will assist adults with their daily routines. We will work closely with their support team(s) to ensure our support aligns with each individual's ISP and personal goals. These goals are unique to each individual but may include seeking employment, participating in community events, completing therapeutic activities, learning new hobbies, etc. We will provide 24/7 support.

    • To receive our services, the individual must have a primary diagnosis of developmental disability before their 18th birthday.

  • I am interested in receiving services, or I know someone who is. What's the first step? What if I am not currently located in Virginia Beach?

    • Please contact us and your team's support coordinator/ case manager for assistance. If you are not located in Virginia Beach, we can still provide support as long as the individual's DD waiver is current with the state of Virginia. You can state your preference to change locations, cities, homes, etc., anytime.

  • What certifications do your staff maintain?

    • Our leadership staff has advanced degrees in the Human Services Field and extensive risk management training specific to serving those with developmental disabilities. Our DSP staff are trained healthcare professionals re-trained annually in First Aid/CPR/AED, Therapeutic Options (TOVA), Human Rights, Medication Administration, Person-Centered Thinking and Philosophies, safety, and risk management. Most of our trainers remain staffed with our company to ensure we provide our staff with training that maintains our standards.

  • What safety measures are in place at the home?

    • We have state-of-the-art ADT and Google Nest security systems that monitor each home entry point; each door has a camera, and the main entries have facial recognition software. Additionally, the systems provide around-the-clock carbon monoxide and fire monitoring.   Everyone in our care will receive a unique code to unlock the primary doors. Once in the home, each individual has a lockable door to their own bedroom and a corresponding set of keys. To protect the privacy of those in our care, we do not maintain cameras in the home's living areas.

  • What makes this home different from a facility? Does this setting feel like a home or a business?

    • We have taken extensive measures to ensure our home is just that--a home.  Our business functions are carried out in a separate office space that does not impede the home's living spaces. We will remain compliant with DBHDS and Medicaid mandates regarding information that must be posted; however, all information is posted in a decorative manner that contributes to the home's aesthetics. Each space within the home is decorated with the individuals in mind. We are open to and encourage individuals to personalize their independent bedrooms to ensure they are given the freedom to express their self-interests. Additionally, we ensure activities, hobbies, etc., are presented based on individual preference; we do not force group gatherings, shared meals, etc., for those do not wish to participate.

  • I am interested in entering this field. Can I apply, even if I don't have experience?

    • Absolutely! We provide opportunities to those with varying experience levels, including volunteers and those new to the field.  We train in-house, ensuring you have everything you need to succeed.

  • I have been out of the field for a while and my certifications have expired. Would I be considered for employment?

    • Yes! Because we train in-house, we can ensure your certifications and training are up-to-date.
